09 Sleeping Song

Fires of Bangkok - 09 Sleeping Song

09 sleeping-songI always liked songs that could be played while sleeping without waking me up. This is a song that I think I could sleep through. Not what you want people to do usually but with this song that is the goal.

Instrumentation:
Drum Programming, Bass, Organ: Tim Delaney
Guitar, Organ: Fires of Bangkok

07 I’m Alive

Fires of Bangkok - 07 I'm Alive

07 Im AliveI wanted to do a song that was embarrassing for me forcing me to make a fun song rather than being so serious. I wanted to add one of those Jackson 5 style speaking parts in it to accomplish this… So Tim and I took a few shots to loosen up and allow the inhibitions to go away then we started recording. Its excruciatingly embarrassing to me but after letting a few friends hear it they convinced me to get over it.

Instrumentation:
Drum Programming, Bass: Tim Delaney
Drums, Guitar, Vox: Fires of Bangkok

Lyrics:
First there was darkness, then there was light.
I’m sending you visions tonight, and all the girls with the Cadillac eyes.
This town’s gonna crucify me, but I’m alive, and I will survive,
In the spirit.

(talkin’ crap)

I know you’re a sinner, I know I’m alive.
I’m # 7, but you are space # 9.
I will survive,
In the spirit.

(talkin’ crap)

I will survive, in the spirit.

Fires of Bangkok - 05 Exit

05 ExitTried to do something that I would never do…  The drums were tuned then a white sheet placed over the entire kit including the cymbals.  If I ever wanted to do an Al Green record this would be the way to do the drums.

Instrumentation:
Bass, Assorted Keys: Tim Delaney
Drums, Guitar, Assorted Keys: Fires of Bangkok

03 So Far

Fires of Bangkok - 03 So Far

03 So FarThis is a shot at writing a song in a genre that I really love.

Instrumentation:
Drum Programming: Fires of Bangkok
Bass, Guitar, Vox: Fires of Bangkok

Lyrics:
Not today, maybe tomorrow…
I don’t know why, Its the least I could do.
Taking our time, but don’t take it for granted…
I don’t know, I don’t know what else we could do.

And I know its right, and it feels so right…
But I won’t follow you so far from home.

Today the pain, is meant to be borrowed…
At least they were lies, and now that they’re gone.
We’re back to our senses, and nothing is wrong…
Light as a feather, what could be wrong.

And I know its right, and it feels so right…
But I won’t follow you so far from home.

A knife in the side, a break in my spirit…
Something dies, and we never look back.
Waiting for something, something we lack…
Like we never knew things could be so bad.

And I know its right, and it feels so right…
But I won’t follow you so far from home.

28 what’s left stands

Eric Balint -28 what's left stands

whaslefti initially was going to have a lot more layers going on in this song, but i really like the sound of it stripped down like this…i guess because it allows the drum part to come through more…
…also, it’s 11:55

the idea for the lyrics sprang from watching people in a restaurant from outside.

instruments:
guitar: zanny’s generic classical
bass: beat ass harmony
drums
vocals x’s 3
hand claps

lyrics:
i watched you through the glass
but it should have been a screen
you all looked just like
actors in a movie scene
laughing it up
dressed to the nines
young and fit
raising your cup
saying your lines
with charm and wit
wide eyed and blue and silver toned
the crowd holds it’s breath
and shivers to the bone
for what you might say next
from outside
the motion’s slow
the meaning’s deep
but i don’t
really know
i’m not in this scene
there is no such thing
there’s no fire
or hero’s cape
there’s no last minute escape
when broken down
and barely there
what’s left stands
true and bare

Eric Balint -17 my lowlife heroes

AngelswDirtyFaces02ai’m not really sure what to say here. i like the guts of this song, but this recording/version of it seems very incomplete to me…or like i didn’t quite capture what i had in mind coming in.
but, i guess, that is going to come with the territory.

instruments:
guitar
bass
drums
vocals

lyrics:

i would give my all to fall near those.
the battle cry of my lowlife heroes

16 test ban

by on Thursday, October 22nd, 2009

Eric Balint -16 test ban

testbanpthis song started with the bass. i hadn’t began there yet. then i laid down some simple tremelo-d guitar. then i moved onto the drums…
i had a couple of kit mics going and i decided to put some delay on one of them…and it really created a different sense of mood than i had anticipated.
so that kind of led me to where the song ended up.

instruments:
bass: beat ass harmony
guitar: yamaha hollow body electric
drums
organ: hammond
